There are three groups of people that are affected by having more than one user profile and password: (1) end users; (2) administrators; and (3) application developers to benefit from implementing Single Sign-On. The availability of EIM allows ALL three groups to benefit, versus just one or two given traditional (no based on EIM) solutions like password synchronization or password capturing. For OS/400 and i5/OS, the EIM and Kerberos solution: actually does away with passwords (reducing management expense); does not require the underlying authorization scheme to change (still determined by the user profile); is already deployed (integrated into the operating system and supported by IBM); and perhaps most important, can be incrementally implemented (it is not an all or nothing project requiring extensive planning).
